A Pisharody family from Palakkad District 08-03-2012 CONGRATULATIONS TO CHOWWARA UNIT AND SAMAJAM WEBSITE!

We the Pisharodies are mostly residing at Kochi and Malabar snd so couldn’t have the fortune to visit the famous temples at Thiruvithamkoor. If at all it is not a direct darshan, we could see the famous temples like Ambalappuzha, Harippad, Mannarassala, Chakkulathukavu etc. at least from outside. The outside view shows that how big is those temples and their compounds. We request the Chowwara unit that if they have more temples’ photos, insert them also in the website.

V P SUKUMARAN Thrisur 13-11-08 Of Course we all know, the Samajam has done many good things for our community and it is still continuing. But, after the inauguration of the “Pisharody Samajam Guest House” at Guruvayur, I feel that no further plans are forthcoming and almost all units are facing a “PRAVARTHANA MANDIAM”. People are asking, “Where is our global directory? Why now a good percentage of our children are going to intercaste marriage? What is Samajam is doing to find a bride or groom from our caste itself. So, past is past. We have to work all the time, mingle with the poor people as well as the rich and all Pisharodies and Pisharasiars should feel that this is OUR ORGANIZATION. WE HAVE TO STRENGTHEN IT.
With Best Wishes,
V P SUKUMARAN

K P Balakrishnan President, Pisharody Samajam Thrisur 30-06-08 I congratulate the entire members of the newly elected Governing Council Members of Mumbai Unit. I wish you all the best in all your future activities.
Dr V P Gopinathan Thrisur 30-06-08 Dear newly elected team of office bearers of Mumbai Unit,
My best wishes to the new team of the unit. What is equally interesting is the release of the data on the website the same day! Let other chapters emulate such meticulous and timely record of events.
May the new team do well as before. Keep it up.
Murali Menon Tanzania 06-11-2007 I read the November issue of YC. The editorial was important and very relevant to the present situation. No parents and student wish for politics in campus. It is the interest of politicians who need the young blood whom can be brain washed very easily. Unfortunately, any matter in Kerala will be voted equally positive and negative.
Rema Pisharody Bangalore 05-10-2007 India is a country enriched with gurus and god men and there is a mystic environment associated with all of them. They all live in artificially created aristocratic ashrams. All of them got this ability to pull masses, which is highly appreciable. Their close associates are highly influential celebrities and foreigners who donate huge amounts in terms of Indian currency. It is also appreciable that these gurus do a lot of charity, but are they all simple – not so. They fly on air planes, tour to various destinations of the world, institutionalize their mission and collect money to expand their territory. People from other countries use Indian gurus and their ashrams as their stress busters and utilize the intensive attention they receive from here. Excuse the genuine believers.

About Sree Sree, his sudharshana kriya is no doubt a good exercise for the body and it is available for any one who enrolls for it- when you pay you learnt it right. I have seen Sree Sree in Bangalore Airport once that he was going to Norway for a conference. A crowd followed him there and they all appeared to be from the economically privileged sections. Sree Sree’s group conducted a 3 days musical extravagance in Bangalore and I got an opportunity to play there. It was a symphony, a one-time experience in life and not a tribute to music. The mega event was highly publicized and diplomats and delegates from many countries attended. Even the then President Abdul Kalam played Veena there. Internet booking was available for foreigners on a package basis. Channels telecast the event. In one of the clippings, many viewed a small Indian boy with folded hands struggling close to Sree Sree to get his blessing. Sree Sree moved straight on this boy ignoring him completely to greet foreigners. With due respect to his good deeds that act was not justifiable.

Is he god? Naaaaa. .
Haridas K Pisharody Dombivli, Mumbai 14-09-07 I have gone through the Yuvachaitanyam September issue and find the contents excellent, especially your timely editorial. Congratulations! However, on going through Radhettan’s article “Is India Shining”, I find several spelling/typographical errors, which could have been avoided had it been properly read by your editor. The article, as in Radhettan’s usual language style and quality, has been very well written highlightening the achievements of our country. We look forward to more such articles from Radhettan. With best wishes,
Kuttikrishnan P P Vasai, Mumbai 07-09-07 Yuvachaithanyam Sep issue has come out very well. Congrats for your magnificent efforts.
Dr V P Gopinathan Thrisur 05-09-07 Belated happy birthday to Kamaloppol. May u both have a healthy wealthy and prosperous many years .I congratulate Mumbai unit for celebrating the function. I wish if many more ladies come forward for our community welfare.
G.P.Kamalavathi, President, Mumbai unit 21-08-07 Now that our important festival ONAM is just a few days away, let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy onam and a most fulfilling new year. As always I will continue to be with you to share your joys and sorrows, and will pray for your wellbeing in the years to come.
Nirmala Suresh Mumbai 02-08-07 The Onam Special issue of Yuvachaitanyam – the most awaited one- is nothing less than the Onam Sadya with a wide variety of dishes. The layout reminds me of a beautifully laid “Pookkalam” with all its color and brightness.

All the articles especially “Ennalum Oname Vannalum”, “Sreekovil” etc. are worth a huge appreciation.

“Thats TeDiouS” by Mr. Pramod Pisharody really hit the bull’s eye and is apt for this time of the year :). The story “Naadinte Manam” by K C Srinath, Bangalore also made for a good read with the way it was narrated and brought back the nostalgia of our God’s own country. The participation of Vandana and Sanjana with their cute poems is a matter of pride for YC as it shows that YC is a favourite for children too.

So, I have already had my “Onam Sadya”… what about you ??
P Vijayan Mumbai 14-7-07 The editorial in the YC is fantastic and timely.
G.P.Kamalavathi, President, Mumbai Unit 9-07-07 Thanks to everyone who attended the meeting on 8th at mulund as also  the felicitation function that followed. There was better turn out  this time, and I am delighted that everyone participated in the discussion. I wish there will be 100% turn out hereafter especially  from the students side.  I repeat it is not the value of the prize  that matters, but the true sentiments behind it. God bless you all.
Pramod Pisharody Mumbai 06-07-07 Once again Nirmala has pinpointed facts. Patriotism indeed requires being redefined. Other than what Nirmala wrote, the generation today looks upon patriotism as hating Pakistanis (evident from social networking sites), gluing in front of TV sets watching GB Shaw’s eleven fools, playing patriotic songs and pinning flags onto their dresses on two days and blaming the country’s shortcomings the rest of the year.

The Father of the Nation left behind his principles in this world for time immemorial but only after a recent movie came about, his own country’s people started practicing them. And the fact is, Telecom Italia spA, an Italian telecom company won the 2004 Epica award for their creative ad. It featured Gandhiji delivering his speech from Sabarmati via a webcam and internet to the entire world in the pre-independence era kind of a situation and the entire world was watching and listening to it. In the end of the ad, the punch line was “Imagine the world today, if he would have communicated like this!” Heres the link http://www.epica-awards.org/assets/epica/2004/winners/film/flv/11071.htm. The world knows India and its great patriots, and we are still behind! The country’s so called “Aazaadi” advertising telecom provider should have made such an ad, but they require celebrities and musicians for that.
So who’s the real patriot?

As evident from what Nirmala wrote, the media reported news of what Sunita Williams carried for her food and prayers in space, her relatives in India glued to their TV sets and people praying for her safe landing. And TV news channels show video clippings of Sunita talking about how she’s feeling in space. I doubt if anyone hardly knows any crew members other than Sunita. Other people with Sunita onboard were also humans.

We need to understand that when we come into this world, we are HUMAN first. Our nationality and patriotism are definitely the next.

Srikant Bharathan Mumbai 16-06-07 The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Pisharody Samajam, Mumbai was a memorable occasion. The conduct of the celebrations and the presentation of all the cultural events were excellent. I take this opportunity to thank each and every body who rendered their precious time for the better conduct of the programs. The cooking abilities of our food preparation team were once again brought to light. Presence of the members from Kerala gave us a homely touch. Best Wishes to Pisharody Samajam, Mumbai in the years to come and hope more and more youngsters would turn-up to owe the responsibilities of Samajam and carry it on to great heights.

K P Girishkumar Mumbai 15-06-07 Saw the website with the report on Silver Jubilee celebrations and the photographs. Its really heartening to see that all events have been captured and well set in the album with proper captions. Sincere Congrats to you for organizing everything so well. I can understand the efforts involved of all concerned.
P Unnikrishnan, Damam, Saudi Arabia 15-06-07 I have been eagerly waiting for the pictures and news covering Mumbai Unit’s silver jubilee celebrations. I am delighted to know that the function was a grand success. Congratulations to every individual involved in this mega event of Mumbai Unit.
Usha Unnikrishnan, Singapore 15-06-07 After getting the news from my siblings in Mumbai about the tremendous response to the Silver Jubilee Celebrations, I had been waiting eagerly to view the photos and celebration details on the Samajam website. Many thanks to Murali and all those involved in updating the website very quickly.

Kudos to each and every one involved in making the Programme a huge success. The photos are very good, well taken. Also Congrats to Srikumar. The smiles on the faces of the guests invited, the members and the participants give a good insight into the mood that prevailed that day. Best wishes to all the Committee members and all those who strived to make this event memorable. Wishing Mumbai Unit of Pisharody Samajam, many many more years of success in bringing togetherness.

Best Regards

Priyanka Sarin 13-06-07 This is Priya here (Pramod’s sister). I am specially writing this email to congratulate you on the success of the Silver Jubilee of Pisharody Samajam Mumbai Branch. Came to know from my parents and Pramodettan that it was a great success…I eagerly wished to be in Dombivli for the programme. Snaps sent by Sreekumar on Shaaradikudumbam were also superb and gave a feeling of being a part of this great event. I would once again like to congratulate you and my wishes are also for the whole team….all those who worked hard behind the scenes, as well as on the stage…And do assure  that if i am in Mumbai for the next programme, i will surely be participating in Kaikottikali….
Anand A P 13-06-07 I was going through the directory published by Pisharody samajam – mumbai recently. It was noticed that there are few incorrect information which may be due to non-updating of the Data base. The main purpose of the directory, i believe,  is to locate the pisharodies who are not in regular touch or to improve the contacts through the available address and contact numbers. There are even wrong addresses and names which fails the main purpose of the directory itself. The data must have been collected from the concerned person or from the person who can provide the reliable and correct information.I appreciate samajam for publishing such a directory which are and will be very usefull to all pisharodies, especially those who are, like us,  just settled down in mumbai. I hope the samajam will take my opinion positively Thanking you
Dileepan Anupurath 11-06-07 It was a pleasure to read your article in ‘Yuvachaithanyam’. Rightly you mentioned, i believe that use of colloquial language was the strength of his short stories.Mr. T Padmanabhan pointed out the same while talking about ‘Moonamathoral’.

During the 2nd anniversary of his death it was an appropriate article and thanks for the same.
Kamalavathi G P, President, Mumbai Unit 11-06-07 Dear Murali, Now that our SAMAJAM SILVER JUBILEE PROGRAMME held on 10th has been declared highly successful, I would like you to know and through you all the participants, our local committee members, the distinguished  guests from other shakas as also the audience, how much I appreciate your stupendous efforts, help, support and cooperation to make this event a most memorable one. And what is more I am deeply moved and truly touched by the spontaneous show of love, affection and regard for me.  Indeed I will cherish happy memories of this event for a very very long time to come.
I wish I could write a big THANK U NOTE to each and everyone of you, but my failing health after the recent operation deprives me of the pleasure of doing so.  Hence this decision to make use of the  Yuvachaitanyam/Dhalam to reach out to one and all.  No doubt the Lord will take care of those who help themselves and others equally well.
Words fail me to thank you all adequately for your untiring efforts and support throughout.
love and best wishs.

G.P. Kamalavathi / P.R.Krishnan. (Mulund(East)) 15-04-07 Dear Friends ,

Just 24 Hours before our traditional Vishu festival we are out of the Hospital hence our first thought is to thank the lord for giving us another lease of life and secondly all our friends and well wishers in mumbai and elsewhere for their support and prayers without which we would not have survived .

So let me express my deepest gratitude to every one of them and extend our warmest wishes for a VERY HAPPY VISHU AND PROSPERITY IN THE COMING YEARS.

I do hope this love , Friendship, consideration and concern between our community members will continue to grow and strengthen the bonds of the samajam and its members

Pramod Pisharody Mumbai 02-04-07 Kudos to Nirmala’s article! Its indeed thought provoking. Its a coincidence that we read today about global warming in Times of India newspaper. If mankind doesn’t start doing something seriously about the ills of modern technology, we’ll be doomed by the half of this century! Either the smaller evils will perish us gradually, or the biggest evil will take us away in one flash!
Sukumaran V P Thrisur 06-03-07 Dear Administrator, Very good job you are doing for our community. Thank you very much.
When you are showing “Updated on 05/03/07″, the viewers have to search all pages to find out the updated page, which is a time lose. If you write ” Pirannal Madhuram” and “Guruvayur Guest House News” updated or “Obituary” and “Message Board” updated, we can easily find out the change. Will definitely look into it – Administrator
Kuttikrishnan P P Mumbai 05-03-07 Received the latest issue of Yuvachaithanyam.   Thanks for keeping all members of the same tribe informed about the happenings.  I always  make it a point to read it, or at some occasions, glance thru’ it.

I  was just thinking about the significant contribution made by late Shri P Bhasakaran,  and his simple songs when I read the item in the latest issue. What  is more praiseworthy about Shri Bhaskaran is that he was a person who saw tomorrow yesterday itself and moved accordingly.  This can be seen from his  life  –  He  was a freedom fighter and a communist in his initial age; thereafter  he shifted as a poet, then to film (when very few people – that too  in Madras – ventured into enter), and when the electronic age started, he  started Asianet.  He saw that there was no scope for film industry, and he  seized  the  opportunity of the electronic age.  Also what is even more appreciative  about him is that he has been able to make a mark for himself in whichever area he opted for.

Viewed in this perspective, it is indeed a befitting gesture to write an obituary or a “remembrance”  about a literacy doyen or Karma yogi of yesteryear.

By sheer chance, I logged into the pisharodysamajam.com.
Great efforts & good looking.

I am a life member of Bombay Samajam and unfortunately cut off from the organisation as I left Bombay in 1989 for Ahmedabad and presently working in Jammu & Kashmir.

While going through the introduction to the origin of Pisharodies, I felt, the detail of Origin covered is incomplete. The Quotes are only from myths or legends and nothing related to history. Since this Web may be read by several people across the world, and the neopisharodies who is totally cut off from the main stream, will not get a clear picture of our community. Hence request you to add the history portion also.

For this purpose you could use the one page history provided in the Bombay Pisharody Samajam’s first Souvenir in 1983 or 1984. This was adapted from one study of a professor of history of Calicut University.

From the various articles I read and from the above mentioned study, there exists Pisharody has a strong link to Jainism (Digambar Sect) which was one of the religions patronised by the Chera kingdom. They were put up mostly in Mathilakam & Kodungalllor. No surprise, Jains, as a community, are and were traders hence they were settled near to the old port city and near to the Chera throne until the Cherans began patronising the vaishnavites, the Brahmins came from North following the success of Jains and settled near Irinjalakuda. This is their first settlement and almost all Namboothiries will refer their origin to this Irinjalakuda gramam or their illam related to this gramam. Further all north Indian related communities like Namboothiries, Pisharodies, Muslims etc are few in southern Kerala.

Some of the evidences for this is available in Kerala now also. Take the case of Koodalmanickam Temple which was built by the Jains devoted to Bharat Thirthankar and taken over by the brahmins and redevoted to Bharat the brother of RAM. I heard that the idol at Koodalmanickam is naked. In Hindu temples this was passé. Also the concession given by Brahmins to Pisharodies in this temple to take money “Mala Puthan” but no responsibility to offer a “Mala” to the temple. This pittance is in lieu of the property taken away from the Pisharodies.

The first Jain settlement in kerala is considered at Kallil a village near Perumbavoor and later branched out to Mathilakam etc.. In Kallil Pisharam there is a Bhagwati temple and in reality this is a Jain temple of Thirthankar Padmavati. I heard from elders that the Jains from North India is visiting this place as there are very few temples devoted to Padmavati even in North. Only Kallil Pisharram People can vouch for this.

Another evidence is in the “Bharani Pattu” in Kodungaloor now attached to the temple there. This was started to force the nacked Jain sanyasins to flee. Ultimately most of them fled to Karnataka barring a few.

Further all other Ambalavasi group members are originated from Brahmins either due to “Pathithuam” or due to elivation from lower strata. In the first case, they are wearing a “poonool” (sacred Thread) and imitate the brahmins in all their religious rituals like “Sava Samskaram & Kriya. They take the dead body on a bamboo ladder and cremate and use rice and till(Ellu) in the kriya. Also Shradham is followed every year.

In contrast, Pisharodies follow a very different style and totally different from all other communities of kerala and follow a very distinctive identity.

Due to the Brahmanical hegemony, the prominent changes happened to the remaining Jains are that they are re-christened as Pishorody and forced matriarchy or Marumakkathayam and the loss of property and adoption of the tag of Ambalavasi along with the job of cleaning the temple premises all these for the benefit of new Land owner, the Brahmin.

What a fall for the mighty trading community?

Present situation is that we just boast our Brahminical umbilical cord, the superiority among Ambalavasies, power to sweep the “Sopanam”.

In fact, we have to sponsor some studies to find our origin.

Thanks for this intimation and very glad to hear this Delhi Unit’s birth of our Samajam. This growth is looking like 28th Feather on Our Samajam’s Cap, and let us hope that this would help a lot in taking our Samajam Activities to new heights”!!!

Hearty Congrats and All the Best Wishes to all concerned – especially to those Office Bearers of Delhi Unit!

Same time, hope, you must have already noted that there was an inadvertent typographical error got into your sent mail, which show it as “287th Unit” instead of “28th Unit”. Let us hope that all may take this small/unintentional error in its due sense and would bear with us!

In a few days from now, we will be heralding the New Year 2007. So this is just the time for introspection, and to make resolutions for the coming year. While wishing you all the very best, may I also invoke the blessings of the Lord, for peace progress and prosperity in the years to come.

I have read the article about today’s vanitha when ashish sent it to me and I am very proud that we have at least some people who really think about the real situation. Thank you Pramod. Well ,I think that the women also are responsible for the so called situation .The way of living, dressing up every thing invite danger. Presence of mind is needed for tackling this problem.
Another matter is about the “The girl child is still looked upon as a burden of dowry, a curse by the Gods, treated like a slave earning first for her father, then her husband and maybe her son too.” It is very clear that even though gents talk about all these, when their marriage comes , they will choose only rich girls .Even if they do not ask dowry also, they will be blessed with property and everything. If men(at least our youth) take a decision then this problem can be solved.

Thanks for the write up about Rama Pisharody’s eye donation..

It is indeed heartening to note that though we say that all our values,
relations, cultures, etc. are being lost, as we live in a razz-mattazz
world, there are a few exceptions and some of their ideals stand taller
than the rest. While we feel proud of those stalwarts, it is sad that the
number is very small.

Let’s start emulating the ideas they stood for in whatever small way we
can!

P.Radhakrishnan Mulund, Mumbai 02-12-06 There is considerable force in Pramod\’s argument re.vanita in 21st century. However, that is one side of the coin. Today vanita\’s status has increased manifold, they are in every field of activity, including army, navy and air force. They are also in key positions, Chairman & MDs of high profile companies – a fact unheard of a couple of decades ago. What we need today is a change of attitude, a value based education and respect for  the unwritten laws of social and ethical justice. No doubt vanitas are slowly but steadily coming out of the four walls of homes to play a significant role along with men in all activities.

Dr. V P Gopinathan 22-09-06 There was a time when old generation were put to a lot of hardships to come up in our society on par with others who are and continue to enjoy privileges reserved to so called privileged communities popularly called reserved communities. The decision makers always support so-called backward communities most of whom are financially high! Though some of us come up by mistake, it is time for the communities in the forward communities to effectively unite and raise the issue. The Antony Govt, I understand, had suggested the formation of Munnokka Samudaya Corporation. I feel that all forward communities should unite and fight for the the neglected group. We should not be against the deserving people irrespective of caste .The Govt should come forward to arrange coaching the ill privileged classes of people so that they compete with rich classes. We the fortunate group should come forward and help our younger members of forward communities.

Let us raise this issue in the Aikyavedi and bring to the notice of the Govt. In the meantime let us resolve to help the deserving forward community children. I wish those who enjoyed the meager benefits of Samajam join us in the difficult task.
I congratulate the web team in publishing the day to day relevant matters in online magazine. There is an appreciable increase in the awareness and more are appreciating ur sincere effort.

The short article by Srikant on this controversial subject of grading system in school has depth, colour and forward vision. It shows Srikanth’s understanding of the problem. I entirely agree with his views and it is high time the authorities think of adopting urgent measures to revise the system so as not to cause undue tension in the minds of the young. well done, Srikanth.

Need to change the look & feel of the website & the contents always remains same for long days. No updated comments in all the drop down lists shown here.  But the commendable job done by Manoj K. N.  Appreciated his effort.

Priyanka’s Article on Reservation A good piece Priyanka. Yes, it’s time we raise our voice against reservation on caste basis. If at all it is to be done, it should be based on economic background. What we can do at best is to create this awareness among all concerned. Why not mail this article to as many people as possible!

Thank you very much for the prompt response.

My late mother often used to say that Pisharodies are ‘samaana jaathi’ (equal, or similar caste), in relation to ours, probably because both are Ambalavasis and ‘kazhakam’ is the traditional profession of both. I have a very high regard for the Pisharodi community as the members are highly educated, disciplined and hardworking.

Once again thank you for the clarification to my query.

Hello,

Recently there was a discussion in a Yahoo Group on the after death rituals of Hindus of Kerala. Someone asked me about the custom of burial prevalent among Pisharotys which is quite distinct from cremation generally practiced by other Hindus. I said I was aware of this custom but was unaware of the reason behind it.

Is there any specific reason? Are you aware of it? Are there legends or stories related to the origin of this custom?
Reply – It is believed that the Pisharadees of today are the descendants of the Pishara’s(please go through the history page) of the old days. The close similarities between the funeral rites of Pisharadees and Swamiyar’s point to this possibility. The body of the deceased is placed eastward in a seating posture in a pit of two_and_a_half kol (kol is an old length_ measure) by one_and_a_half kol and is filled with salt.

So if you look at the above, the better reason behind the burial would be as explained above.

Administrator

Abhilash Unnikrishnan 29-05-06 This is Abhilash Unnikrishnan and I belong to the Pisharody community. I have just finished my management studies from IIM-Ahmedabad. I had a chance to go through the Pisharody Samajam website. First of all I would like to congratulate you for the wonderful effort. I had a few queries regarding the history of our community. I know that we Pisharodies belong to the Ambalavasi Brahmin or Pushpaka Brahmin caste.. My doubt is what is our Gotra? Like, some Ambalavasi Brahmins like Unnis and Nambissans belong to the Viswamitra Gotram. Others like Warriers and Marars belong to the Kailasa Gotram. My doubt is what Gotra do we Pisharodies belong to? And what mantra do we adhere to? Is it “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”?   It would be great if you could be kind enough to provide me with more details regarding our lineage.
Shri Pisharody pisharody007@hotmail.com 17-05-06 This is with regard to the Chadangu Grandham that was released a couple of years ago. It is indeed a wonderful book that explains all the rituals. But have you ever put a thought of as to how many of us use the book in the right way….or what has happened to the rituals and traditions of the pisharodies…..?

I request you to take the initiative to revive the lost traditions and rituals before they die out. Marriages and other celebrations which where once performed with full rituals have been reduced to those of a mere 5 to 10 seconds. These are the only things that can be passed down to the younger generations so that they be aware of the long lost traditions.

If this mail makes any sense. Pls do reply else I’ll think the samajam is not interested in reviving its rich culture.

I have gone to the site this morning and found all the details.  If was fascinating to note the growth of persons visiting the site – especially february which reached all-time high like the BSE.   The photographs of the work in progress at Guruvayoor are also excellent and by looking at the photographs, people should further come forward.   If it is possible, I feel, it would be advisable to send e-mails to all the addresses available with us asking them to go to the site to know the activities of the samajams.  And, this I feel, should be done periodically.  Persons like me will go only once in a while, but when such reminders are received, one will be forced to go there.

Yes, the editorial of YC  is a good one.  Let our children especially teenagers and even more the parents open their eyes and ears and do something positive. It is a bare fact that simplicity and humility is respected by all.  Our youth should be aware of this.  But  more than the youth, I think the elders, the parents, should be conscious about this aspect; mere knowing is not enough. Parents jointly with the youth should show the courage to refrain from exhibitionism.
Sukumaran V P 02-03-06V It was nice and  apt for the editorial board of “Yuvachaithanyam” to publish the interview of our Kulapathi since his death anniversary falls in March.

Prabhakaran K P Oman 04-02-06  While we all definitely have high regard about those existing pictures that are put on our Website’s homepage; would appreciate if you can kindly consider the following suggestion; you may implement only if felt technically practical in today’s context.  First, let us invite Community Members to post their regional temples’ pictures and accepting their contributions, if such collection of picture/s can  also be put on our Website through some suitable mechanism (program) I think that would be really great! Whereby, we can keep changing our Website’s presentation/look periodically, and this would give chance to have increased interaction/participations from members’ side too. And I am sure; any serious Member would love to see such Pictures posted on our community website which gets enough exposure and attention from others. Thus, we all can also see many places / temples around us like this!
Sreedharan T V Pune 02-02-06  As I can see the good progress in the website by adding many things which is informative. I would like to suggest on the above mentioned subject:
Can the abroad Pisharodies update the daily/weekly on Job opportunity (current link is not useful). This will help a lot.
Hope you will do the needful.

V P Sukumaran Chowwara 06-01-06 I am very happy to know that the “Yuvajanasammelanam” held at Irinjalakuda had seriously discussed about the increased inter caste marriages in our community. If things go like this, I afraid, there will not be a community named “Pisharody” in the next century!   We can be proud of our community that there is no dowry system among us. No other cast or religion can claim this. So it is necessary that Pisharody community should exist. So Youthwing and Yuvachaithanyam should spread this campaign in our community especially among the youth. At least now onwards we should discourage inter caste marriages
Haridas Appukuttan – 03-01-06 Our web site is improving day by day ,appreciating the efforts and sincere work.
Raghuraj K P, UAE 02-01-06  Happy New Year. Good to see the improvements/changes in the website in tune with the new year .But like to bring to your kind notice the following points:-

1. In the Photograph the number of elephants are not matching with the number that comes to mind when we think of Thrissur Pooram. there are more than 15 elephants(18nos) in the picture. Please correct it to give more meaning to the picture.

2. immediately after entering the site, the message line at bottom wishing Happy new year the font colour given is Black which doesn’t suit the occasion. Please change the font colour to any other appropriate/meaningful one. So also the speed at which it scrolls makes it difficult for a person to note the contact details in case he wants to use it (Eg. for giving an advertisement.) So reduce the scroll speed to give better results.

Hope you will take these points positively to make the site more accurate.

With wishes

Shashi Pune – 22-11-05 I do see your email regularly.  You keep me posted on the obituary. Just wondering. . . . . . . . is it possible to have a census of Pisharodys around the globe!!! And then keep a tag on the Births & Deaths.  Probably the Samajam Branches should be assigned to take up this task.  We should also request the members through the magazine “THULASEEDALAM”. Is is possible? Shashi   Thank you very much for your valuable suggestion. We are slowly moving to that aim.
In the first stage we are making a global telephone directory of Pisharodies. In the second stage, we will make a whole world Pisharody Samajam membership register at the centre. In the third stage our aim is to take a census of Pisharodies, with the initiative of the youth wing. Since there are only a few members to work for this, it will take time to reach the target. Anyhow, we will reach there.
Once again thanking you,
V P SUKUMARAN
(Treasurer, Pisharody Samajam.)
Usha Unnikrishnan Singapore – 21-11-05 Congrats to Pisharody Samajam for putting up the photos and news about Mumbai Samajam celebrations so quickly!!! Convey our congrats to the Web Team and all other members who have made it possible for overseas members to see what they would miss otherwise.

Congratulations to the Website team!!!
There is an excellent change in the content and appearance of the website. The site  has developed a lot…
We recognize the value of the effort behind it…
Congratulations once again..!!!
A Samajam  Member who hasn’t given his identity & Reply from Treasurer, PSI feel very bad in giving such photos (given in this message board page) of website. Actually we are not trying to insult the poor people. We are trying to help them. Photo- anyone can admit . But giving address of that family- not good. Trying to get money for the construction must not be by giving the address of the people in the website. Try to remove the particular from the page as early as possible.Dear Brother,
Thank you for the interest taken by you in Pisharody Samajam website and for your constructive opinion.
Being a charitable society and since we are collecting donations from our members and public, all our activities must be transparent, especially in finance sector. If we say “for constructing house to “A” pisharody”, people may arise doubt that whether we are helping the eligible person or whether he/she deserves it. If we publish the address here only name and place is given), they can enquire the fact. We also published the photo of the present hut to convince our members the eligibility.
So please realise our sincerity in this and donate generously for this great cause.
Yours sincerely,
V P SUKUMARAN

C P Balakrishnan (Balaji) Pune Sakha 08-11-05 During the Diwali vacation, we got an opportunity to visit Aurangabad, the city of Ajanta and Ellora caves, for sight seeing.  We have taken this decision on an invitation from the Pisharody members of Aurangabad, who are the members of Pune Sakha.  The arrangements made by five Pisharody families, headed by Mr. TN Mohan, were really appreciable.  With their guidance, the two-day trip to the Caves and other important places in Aurangabad city was a wonderful experience.  The union of entire Pisharody families of Aurangabad at Bibi-ka-Maqbara (locally known as Duplicate Taj Mahal) was a symbol of their co-operation which has added pleasure.  Cultural performances and games by some of the members of the family added the spice.  Though it was a personal trip with my family, the enthusiasm shown by them was quite encouraging. The idea of putting these words is to express our gratitude to them.  My sincere thanks to all of them.
G P Kamalavathi President Mumbai Unit19-10-05 I was immensely pleased to see the Onaghosham pictures of UAE unit. It is excellent, and we are all proud of the Samajam website which is best. Congratulations and best wishes for the participants and all the samajam members. Keep it up.

SP – 31-08-05 To the web admins..
having the email list open to public like this is an invitation to spammers.
suggestions:
1. you could make it a password-protected page,
2. you could implement it as a dynamic lookup based on name / pisharam (maybe from a database)
hope important issues like this are addressed ahead of cosmetic changes to the website.
thanks.
Haridas Appukuttan – 27-08-05 Appreciating the efforts behind, sincerely.
K P Girish Kumar (a member of Alathur Shakha), L&T – ECC Mumbai – 22-08-05 I have been seeing with interest our web site for some time now. It has come a long way since its inception and is continuously improving. Kudos to the devoted team at the helm. As one of the members have posted, it would be worthwhile to consider making the site a more interactive one. Going by the rate of growth in the number of samajam members accessing the web site, I suppose this also would happen soon. I take this opportunity to wish all members of our community well being and happiness.
Santhosh, Doha-Qatar – 22-08-05 I am very much impressed by the amount of information pisharody samajam website has. Well done, web team.

G P KAMALAVATHY, President, Mumbai Sakha 31-07-05 Many people in Mumbai have to undergo lot of problems especially those residing in Kalyan, dombivilli, ambernath, etc. During such floods or other calamities, those who are stuck and stranded can avail of the facilities of our residence at mulund. Please phone us at 25689174 or drop in at B-39 Deplaxmi,Mulund(E)mumbai.400081. U are always welcome.
ASK Pisharody  23-07-05 I like the website and appreciate the hands and brains behind it.  I suggest it will be useful if tips of computer maintenance and basic computer learning information is published by experts in the field.  It will help to improve computer knowledge of  persons viewing the website.
Radhakrishnan P   Mumbai 17-07-05 Samajam website has improved considerably since introduced. It is nice to know the e mail of all pisharodys staying in India and abroad.  perhaps u can also start a marriage bureau also like shadi.com for exclusive use of our pisharody families .
K.P. Prabhakaran, Oman. 14.7.05 First of all, please accept our hearty congratulations for all those good work you two are doing for the Samajam! With Mr. Murali\’s additional services, of late, Samajam website has got a new look and vigour. Great/Wonderful job!!!

But most of the times, one person alone cannot keep the site fully alive and active since he may not get adequate time for it. And your this new feature of asking members\’ opinions / suggestions / feedback itself is a welcome stand and undoubtedly, this site has become quite informative and more useful for those who look at it with interest.

Having said so, I have a few humble suggestions too to make for the improved-look of our Samajam website and hope, these are sensible; please see if these are really practical in today\’s context: –

1) The picture shown on the first/cover page at present is too large in size that sometimes, it takes more time to popup. I have observed this in Windows 98 (office PC) as well as on Windows XP-Professional (home PC).
So, instead of which, I suggest that if this picture on Home-page can be reduced to the same size of picture seen on the \’Yuvachaithanyam\’page. Together, if possible, we can also try to put a little larger sizes of \’PS\’ logo in water-mark on the Center of this Home-page, as this should be more appropriate.
2) Also, the existing border colour \’green\’ be replaced or if possible, frequently changed to any pastel/light colours – preferably with a light-blue to start with.
3) Plus, any other timely changes/modifications as applicable, could be made from time to time, to make it even greater.

These suggestions maybe implemented only if your time permits and if you really find it workable. Else, please ignore too – have no complaints at all.

With all the best wishes to you two and to all others in our community

It is nice that we got a new leader for the magazine. The July has come out well in style and content. Congratulations to Smt Bhavani and her team. The magazine will reach further heights in the years to come.
G.P. kamalavathi, President, Mumbai unit   13-07-05 Dear sir/madam
Congratulations on your new assignment as editor of Thulaseedhalam.   I am very happy that a lady member has come forward to shoulder the work   of bringing out our monthly magazine.  I wish more   and more ladies will come forward to take up such responsibilities  in future in various capacities.  It is indeed heartening that Mrs.bhavani has agreed to work in this capacity.  I have heard about her work in the field of journalism.

Congratulations again and may gold bless you
Ramesh P R   Kuwait   09-07-05 It is nice to know that a small Samajam like ours got a Web Site and an Internet Magazine in this modern era of communication. But the million-dollar question is how many members in our samajam are actually using the above facilities. To my knowledge a small section from outside Kerala and a very few members from Kerala are actually visiting the site. The samajam will have to accept that the response is not at all encouraging. Before arriving at some conclusions let us assess reasons behind the same.

One main reason behind it is Internet is yet to establish as a mass medium in Kerala compared to print and electronic medium. The cost of the said medium compared to other two medium is high; as such it is not widely accepted by common man. But today or tomorrow it will definitely be a household name. I agree that people outside Kerala who are mainly settled in metropolitan cities have a better chance to use the above facility. But even they are reluctant to visit the site. Why? To me, there should be a reason to visit the site. The site as of today is not interactive. The only reason why one should visit the site is to look for dates of some Sakha committee meetings or report of the executive committee meetings. No, we should be looking at the site for any information a Pisharody need as of today.

First of all it should be an elaborate directory of Pisharody community. It should contain the details of each and every member. You may say that it will be accessible to all if we put it open and other community members may misuse it. To prevent the same we can keep a password-protected environment where by only members can access and enquire about other members.

Secondly we must use the site as a virtual pisharam, a place for Pisharody community members to exchange their ideas, their common issues, photos etc.

Thirdly, we may have a page for each pisharam, which will contain the history, details of present and past members in the pisharam etc. which will be a great asset for our next generations to know about us. I know a small step is started towards this, but the information is very less. This may even help people to find a suitable alliance.

Yuvachaithanyam was started publication in the month of March 2002. Like in the case of its predecessor, the reincarnation also had the same fate exactly after a year and it is really nice to note that it got ‘Chaithanyam’ for a third time recently and let us hope the people behind will not let it go down again. Meanwhile we should appreciate the efforts of the people behind it, but at the same time look into the reason behind its failure to sustain. Why it was not become popular even among the outside Keralities is a question to think about. To me, the main reason behind it was that it was looking completely a Malayalam magazine. When somebody who is born and brought up outside Kerala opens it, it should attract him too. We may have interactive classes in it to teach them to write and read Malayalam. Also we must try to get as much literary work from well known people which will make the magazine acceptable to the readers.

Other than this, to promote the magazine, my dear friends at Kerala who got computer access should take a print out of the same and distribute it among the village pisharams where still computer is a luxury.

These are just a few thoughts I would like to share with others.

“Tharavadukal” is a very good and useful means to know Pisharam and their brief history. I really appreciate the people behind it who have worked in this effort.
K Bharathan-Mumbai  14-06-05 I take this opportunity to thank Pisharody Samajam Central Committee and the Web site team for updating the site regularly.

Some mechanism should be adopted for reflecting the each every Sakha\’s new programmes/plans/activities. I request the web site team to study in depth to assess its practicability/ feasibility.
